Decisions, decisions...

This is my first blog on Lifetracks...and it just so happens that my first step into writing on the site comes at a time when a lot of people are in the midst of results season.  I start my final year of university next month, so I'm a couple of years past the scary morning-of-exam-results envelope opening. I do however still have the stress of clicking a button online twice a year to see my grades pop up on the screen.  Equally nerve-inducing!!

The thing is, I'm coming to a crossroads soon - graduation (a word that I'm currently pretending doesn't exist).  Similarly, people are evaluating exam results, leaving school, planning for a gap year, or in many cases, trying to figure out where they want to be and what they want to do!

On this note, I saw an article this morning (http://www.bbc.co.uk/ne ws/education-11010281) which discusses the phenomenon of 'Neet' young people - that is not in education, employment or training.  Interestingly, rather than the usual doom-and-gloom articles about how prospects for young people have never been so bleak, it was actually about how the number of young people in the 'Neet' category has fallen in the second quarter of this year (from 17.6% to 16.3%).

Although the number of young people struggling to find a suitable work/study option is still way too high, whether that be due to a lack of jobs, or no space in universities, or funding concerns, I feel like this fall in 'Neet' young people is slightly reassuring at a time when the future is so uncertain; as I have been musing over recently (probably a first symptom of university Senioritis), what on earth am I going to do next?

So my advice to others who have opened envelopes, clicked on buttons and are now weighing up their options, is to stay positive (and to remember to do what's best for you when facing obstacles when deciding upon the future!)
