Help in a crisis

Having a crisis? Can't cope with life? Want someone to talk to for support? When life gets tough Samaritans is there 24 hours a day.

If you're having a hard time and would really like to talk to someone as soon as possible, Samaritans is there for anyone in distress. Along with offering a quick response time, Samaritans offer different ways to access support which might be more appropriate if you're faced with a crisis.

Different ways to get support

If you email, depending on how busy the Samaritans' service is, you'll normally receive an answer between eight and 12 hours' later, but it can take more or less time. You can also call 08457 909090 anytime to speak to a trained volunteer. They can call you back if it's more convenient. Or you can drop in to a Samaritans branch (find your local branch here).

What can I talk to them about?

Anything that's getting you down. This could be money, exams or worries about school, college or work, because you are self-harming or being abused, or perhaps because you are concerned about relationships with friends, partners or family. You can contact Samaritans at any time of the day or night about any personal issues.

What will they do for me?

One of their trained volunteers will listen and give you the time and space that could help you to find a way through. They don't judge or advise, and they're there 24 hours a day.
